Heartfelt Reminders

Who Are We?

Heartfelt Reminders is a distributor of a pin and bookmark for those who are grieving the loss of a loved one.

What is Our Mission?

Our mission is to re-introduce a visual reminder for those working through grief. Our society seems to have lost all recognition of a period of mourning; we try to get back to work and function as though this major event never occurred. The intention for this pin is encourage our society to once again recognize the existence and importance of grieving. Our long-term vision for Heartfelt Reminders is to fund a Foundation in Charles' name to further the awareness of alternative treatments for cancer.

How Did Heartfelt Reminders Come About?

Doris Hicks-Tillman is the creator of Heartfelt Reminders. Here in her words, she tells what inspired her to create it:

"The design of the pin and bookmark came about as the result of my journey following the loss of my husband, Charles, who died in March of 1996 after a stunning, five-month bout with lung cancer. Charles had always been a very healthy person; tall, strong and handsome. We adored each other and his death came close to being the end of me.

I returned to work in a large, corporate environment two weeks after Charles' death. Within several months, I realized that most people with whom I interacted had no idea that behind my relatively composed exterior, I was in absolute despair. Most people do not understand - but mostly because they have never experienced anything like it. I also realized that many people with whom I came in contact had no idea at all that I had experienced such a traumatic event. I began to feel the need for a visual reminder to others that I had suffered a loss; the pin and bookmark were developed from that need."
